Instant Classics presented by **[Guinness](https://www.guinness.com/)** **Judgement Day has thrown up some thrilling encounters between the Guinness PRO14’s Welsh heavyweights since its inception in 2013 – none more so than this titanic battle between Cardiff Blues and Ospreys in April 2019.** There was plenty more at stake than the usual bragging rights, with fourth place in Conference A – and therefore a place in the Champions Cup play-off – up for grabs for the winners. It could hardly have been more closely poised ahead of the match. Ospreys began just a point clear of Blues, who knew they had to win to leapfrog their rivals. To add further spice into the mix, Gareth Anscombe had opted to join Ospreys from Blues at the end of the 2018/19 season, making this his league farewell in a Cardiff jersey. Anscombe insisted in the build-up that his upcoming transfer would not dampen his determination to win the game for Blues and it was perhaps inevitable the Wales international would have a huge say in proceedings. After Sam Davies’ penalty gave Ospreys an early lead, Anscombe – playing at full-back – finished off a flowing move to cross for the game’s first try in the sixth minute. He converted his own score and soon added a penalty from the touchline but Ospreys responded with another Davies penalty before taking the lead when Cory Allen went over under the posts from close range.
