Glasgow Warriors avenged one painful defeat in the opening game of the new GUINNESS PRO12 season but scrum-half Henry Pyrgos insists the same motivation will spur them on against Cardiff Blues. The Warriors faced champions Leinster last weekend, the side they lost 34-12 to in the GUINNESS PRO12 final last season in their last competitive outing. And tries from Pete Horne, Jonny Gray, and Josh Strauss helped the Scottish side gain some revenge with a 22-20 win at Scoutstoun. This weekend they face a side in Cardiff Blues who also inflicted a pair of devastating losses on Gregor Townsend’s men to end their European exploits last season. And Pyrgos believes his side will have to produce some of their best rugby at this early stage of the season to come away with a victory. “We played the Blues in the Heineken Cup last season, they are a strong team and they beat us twice, home and away,” he told the Scotsman. “On the 4G [artificial pitch] down there, it was pretty quick, they like to chuck the ball around and keep their width similar to us so I am sure it’s going to be a fast, fast game.” The Blues also began the new season with a win, defeat Italian side Zebre 41-26 in convincing fashion to record their fifth PRO12 win in six matches. And director of rugby Mark Hammett, who will be in charge of his first home game with the Welsh side, insists their home form will be crucial this season. "It's important that we make our home a tough place for teams to come," said Hammett. "But just because you think it or want it doesn't mean it is going to happen and we have got to buy into that and know what that looks like. “To make a home a fortress would be nice, but words are cheap, we need to perform. "We go up against Glasgow and I thought they were exceptional on the first weekend and should have won by a clearer margin against Leinster. “We are excited about playing at home and it will be fast and open on our home pitch."
