Munster had fought back from 27-17 down with 14 men to beat Scarlets on the opening weekend, with Ben Healy’s last-gasp kick sealing victory, and the fly-half held his nerve once more the following weekend to help his side edge past Edinburgh 25-23. Cardiff also won despite being a man light on the opening weekend, holding on to beat Zebre in Parma, and followed that up with an impressive victory over Connacht at the Blues’ temporary home of Rodney Parade. It all added up to an eagerly-anticipated clash under the Monday night lights and the tone was set in a frantic opening seven minutes which saw both sides cross the whitewash.
