In another record breaking, try scoring season in Guinness PRO14 Rugby, it was Rabz Maxwane of the Toyota Cheetahs that claimed the top try scorer crown. Over the entirety of the season, the winger and sometimes centre notched up 14 tries with his closest competitor in Scarlets Johnny McNicholl bagging 11. Quickly finding his rhythm in the early section of the season, Rabz went on a run of 6 tries across 4 games between rounds 4 and 7 and continued his onslaught over the as an ever-present treat with his ball carrying (151) and line breaking (34) ability. Not many teams escaped seeing Rabz name on the scoresheet but he found particular returns against the Welsh, crossing the whitewash against all 4 representative teams including three times against the Cardiff Blues. The Cheetahs sat just beyond the top 3 in the try scoring charts only behind Leinster (99), Glasgow (92) and Munster (82), three Semi Finalists of this year’s competition. Touching the ball down 80 times, the Cheetahs have now set themselves a new target and will hope to better that number next season and in doing so taking themselves into contention for the championship deciders.
