In the end, in a dramatic finale at Celtic Park, they fell just short as Leinster made it two Guinness PRO14 titles in a row. But what a campaign it was from the men from Scotstoun – they finished the regular season in ridiculous form with eight wins on the spin. That sealed top spot in Conference A for the second season in a row, holding off an in-form Munster side in the process. But in the Final Series, they came unstuck on home soil against Leinster and next year, will be desperate to finish the job off. Read more OSPREYS Ospreys will be back at Europe’s top table next year – after an impressive play-off win over the Scarlets. And after Allen Clarke’s first season in permanent charge, that was a fitting reward for their efforts this year. Unfortunate to miss out on the Final Series, The Ospreys produced an impressive overall campaign that saw them finish fourth in Conference A, only just behind Connacht in third. Read more ZEBRE RUGBY Zebre got off to a strong start in the Guinness PRO14, winning two of their opening three matches. But Michael Bradley’s men fell away, winning just once in their following 18 fixtures as they ended up bottom of Conference A. Still, they claimed impressive scalps of Edinburgh Rugby and Cardiff Blues at Stadio Sergio Lanfranchi this term, where they have been at their most dangerous. Read more CARDIFF BLUES With three games to go, John Mulvihill’s men were primed and ready to make a late charge for a Guinness PRO14 Finals spot. But a run of three consecutive losses put paid to any hopes of achieving that target and left a feeling of what might have been for the season as whole – finishing fifth in Conference A in the end. A final-day defeat to Ospreys will be frustrating for Blues fans but a double over Scarlets and a statement win over Munster will stick out as some of the highlights over the course of the season. Read more ULSTER The 2018-19 Guinness PRO14 season was undoubtedly one of huge progress for Ulster Rugby, who took giant steps forward in just 12 months. Finishing fourth in Conference B and making it to the European Champions Cup through a play-off win in 2018, this year has seen rapid progression from that point. With Dan McFarland taking over at the beginning of the season, Ulster finished second in their Conference, also making it to the Guinness PRO14 semi-finals. Read more EDINBURGH It will end as a season of mixed emotions for Edinburgh – a breakthrough in Europe but a step backwards in the Guinness PRO14. Conference B was so tight but Richard Cockerill’s men ended up fifth after their final day defeat to Glasgow Warriors. That means European Champions Cup rugby will not be theirs next season – a shame after this campaign’s breakthrough to the quarter-finals for the first time in seven years. But they can console themselves with the 1872 Cup that remains theirs for another year and have plenty to build on. Read more ISUZU SOUTHERN KINGS The Isuzu Southern Kings’ second season in the Guinness PRO14 was no easier than their first, with plenty of challenges along the way but also plenty of successes. Just like in 2017⁄18, the Kings finished bottom of Conference B at the end of this year’s campaign with 11 points, winning two fixtures and drawing another. But they can console themselves with a number of promising performances as they re-build for their third year in the competition, after a summer of restructuring which is looking to offer much promise.
